China's share in each category varies, mostly because the impact of anti-Chinese quotas has varied a lot.

Though by 2008, the EU had taken quota limits off, buyers remained conservative, concerned about te possibility quotas might be re-imposed. As China's share of Japanese imports shows, there is no particular reason China should, without barriers, underperform in any category.

During 2008, China was relatively pricier for Americans than for Europeans. This was at least in part the result of quotas, and a relative fall in Chinese prices seems likely during 2009
