Credit Suisse confirm: for clothes retailers “not being online is an advantage”

Credit Suisse confirmed (download CS analysis 5 Sep) on September 5 that for clothes retailers thinking of online selling “not being online is an advantage”.

Their argument is that it simply is not currently possible to match Primark’s (and therefore by extension, TJX’s or Ross Stores’) efficiencies and sell clothes online. This of course does not preclude other internet uses(the same report lauds Primark’s use of social media),  of technical advances in the future or commercially distinctive strategies today – such as ASOS and Zalando adopt.
