US government “concerned” over Honduras labour law enforcement

The US Department of Labor (DoL) raised serious concerns on February 27 about the effective enforcement of labour laws in Honduras  under the CAFTA-DR labour chapter.

This adds to a number of labour rights earlier cases the US has raised with garment exporting countries.

In this case, though, the DoL merely “calls for the U.S. Department of Labor, in consultation with the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and U.S. Department of State, to review progress towards addressing the concerns identified in the report within 12 months and to consider further appropriate action or engagement, as needed, under the CAFTA-DR.”
