Vietnam, US Further Extend Garment Agreement

Vietnam and the US announced on December 9 that their garment and textile agreement would be extended until Dec. 31, 2006, unless Vietnam joins the WTO sooner. The new agreement reportedly allows 5%-6% quota increases, though only in knitted shirts are Vietnam’s 2005 exports to the US anywhere near quota levels.
